Saddleback Valley Unified School District Agrees to Skip the Plastic Straw!

At the beginning of August, I contacted the director of food services of Saddleback Valley Unified School District (USD), Riki Pollard, asking if it would be possible for their district to remove plastic straws from the meals in their school cafeterias. I recently received good news that they have decided to join the Skip the Plastic Straw campaign and will remove plastic straws altogether from their school district. That means a total of 34 schools (24 elementary schools, 4 intermediate schools, 4 high schools, and 2 alternative schools)! Educating Kids at Pacific Marine Mammal Center in Laguna Beach

From June through early August 2018, I partnered with the Pacific Marine Mammal Center (PMMC) in Laguna Beach to educate the kids attending their weekly summer camp about single-use plastic straws and my Skip the Plastic Straw campaign. Each week, I was able to meet with new kids attending the camp and share with more than 200 kids (from ages 8-13) and counselors on the harmful effects of single-use plastic straws; hopefully they can help spread the word to their friends and families and start their own campaigns.
