Orange County's Largest School District Skips the Plastic Straw!

Capistrano Unified School District (CUSD), the LARGEST school district in Orange County, has agreed to Skip the Plastic Straw with me in all of their 62 schools! Thank you Mrs. Kristin Hilleman, Director of Food and Nutrition Services at CUSD, for supporting and joining my campaign to remove single-use plastic straws from all 62 schools in the entire school district and doing so much more for our environment!

Starting in the new school year, 2019-20, CUSD will be implementing these changes for all 62 schools in their district:

  • Remove plastic straws from all cutlery packets.

  • Moving toward more compostable packaging in the future.

In addition, CUSD has already started removing single-use plastic bottles in their school district.

“The entire CUSD Food and Nutrition Services team have decided to add on to their #PlasticFreeCUSD movement started in January of 2018 by joining the Skip the Plastic Straw movement,” said Mrs. Hilleman.

Thank you so much CUSD for being a leader and making this change for our schools, students, environment, and oceans!

I have also shared this on my Instagram so be sure to go check it out!
